About Education in Cambodia |
Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world due to decades of war, massacres and political turmoil.
- Only 35% of the nation’s population (over 15 years of age) is literate.
- Half of the 13 million citizens are ages 20 and under.
- The country’s immense poverty forces most children to leave school at an early age to work in their family’s rice paddies or at jobs that are often difficult and dangerous.
- For every 100 children that begin school, only three will persevere until high school graduation.
Education is the key to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy. Local churches and educational NGO’s are partnering in providing quality primary education by starting an indigenous school program. Through our Elementary Education Partnership Program we plan to educate Cambodia’s next generation, train teachers and thus affect the nation. Creating a wholesome Christian school environment with Khmer teachers committed to invest in the lives of young people is the thrust of this vision. |
